Farm Work Must Go On…

So lots of stuff going on out on the farm. Here is a run down of what is going on out there. LOL.

First off, we have 5 dogs; 4 medium sized dogs and 1 very BIG dog. LOL. Miss Grace (Spooch) is at 50lbs and growing. She is still working on outgrowing that puppy legs don’t always do right stage. LOL. All that to say, we’ve had to work around them being in the house here and there. So my bathroom has been a doghouse and the utility has been a doghouse. But it’s about to change. The backyard is fenced in and we are going to fence it off in the middle and Delayie Jayd and Hayleigh Daun will be on one side just have to finish up their house area. Laycie Renay and Frostie Layne will be on the other and we will build them a shelter, they HATE dog houses. They don’t understand they are dogs. Hehe. Then Spooch will be inside.

On to cats, I have cats, Mom has cats and we are baby sitting cats. LOL. All in all, we have 7 cats, so we are going to screen in our backporch and finish the roof and the cats will gain a home there. I have ideas for perches to sit on and such. I’m putting a wood floor down in my bathroom and the carpet can be used as covering for their perches. Good idea huh?? I know!!! Then we will have 1 dog and 1 cat and our turtle and fish only in the house. LOL. How easy will that be??? I can not wait!!!!

Now outside the backyard and house, The horse has a barn, we just have to replace some boards that are rotting out and because of summer it was open more for the breeze to go through. Then we are going to go with homeless shelters again for the goats, they really liked them last year and we had 3 different styles so we know their preferences on the styles. Then a little shelter on top for Candy the cat (a beautiful Persian looking cat that hates other cats so she lives with goats and a horse, figure that one out???). Then the chickens are going to move from out back near the swimming pool to up next to the house, where we can easily reach them during the really cold time with heat lamps. So that is good and then, the animals will be ready for winter, well the really cold times. Lucy will need a little house too. That is the goose. LOL.

So whew I’m already tired, we are starting off with chickens moving and dogs going outside. Which it was all such good ideas and it started raining. Thankfully just for today I think though!!!!

So that is all for today, hope you enjoyed my ramblings, gets my thought out of my head and onto paper. YAY!!!

Blondie is trying!!!!

Well, good news on The Farm front. Blondie is still just plugging along. She is trying to get up on her own. This morning I laid out paper and took her out of her box so she has room to move around more (the box isn't as wide as her wing span). She had those wings spread out and her legs pulled up under her and she was trying for all she was worth to get up. She is much better. If I can just get her on her feet and balanced. Her bad leg is still gimpy but she is using it more now.

She got a bath last night and she did very good!!! She just sat there in the water and let me clean her up a little. I expected a fight now that she is stronger but no, she did great. She is so funny, she is feeling better and ready to get out and go but her legs aren't strong enough yet so she gets those wings open and she gets around my bathroom that way. I started giving her a tad of scratch and she really enjoys that.

She scoots to the edge of the paper and pecks at the carpet, LOL, I am going to take her outside tomorrow and let her peck around on the ground. I am really pulling for her to walk again because my family is just in SHOCK at how well she is doing now. At first no one wanted to do anything, they just wanted me to tend her until she died and there was a couple days where it was kind of touch and go and the stress was really getting to me, but then she started gaining her strength back and it's amazing me how well she is doing!!!

We have bonded and Lil Roo is NOT going to be happy. LOL. Lil Roo hates me for some reason and he is not going to be happy that his little lady and I are friends now. Hehe.

Another tidbit of Farm news. I was in Balch Springs last night and got to see Kris Kringle (little goat) and his little girlfriend. LOL. She is tan and white and he is all black so it'll be fun to go see their babies when they begin to come along. He seemed very happy in that big lot eating away. It was dark and he was out eating with his new little friends. He seemed to be doing very well. Kind of cool to know where he is because when I'm out that way I can see him. I haven't gotten to see Sassy but I hear that she is doing very good and is very spoiled. She has kiddos to play with so I know she is happy because she loves her Humans and kids to play with, she LOVED playing. Which she now has NO horns. LOL. Kris still had his but they are still teeny tiny.

I love my little farm. I'm thinking Mator is getting a little frisky, thankfully the ground is starting to dry out some. This flood that came let me know where I still have to make some changes in my "barns". It also gives me time to change my goat house plans to include a raised floor. I'm going to have to do that in the horse barn too. Lucy has requested a place of her own that that she is laying eggs. LOL. She keeps running the chickens and horse out of the barn and it's their barn. Haha. Onry goose. I'm considering getting ducks, I would love another goose but Lucy may run the farmyard animal wise but she lets me pretend to be in charge over her. Hehe. She doesn't chase me so that is good!!! I'm expecting Silkie babies soon, I have 3 hens sitting faithfully so surely we'll have babies soon.

Another Blondie Update

Well, tonight Blondie will get to enjoy (haha) a bath. Yeppers, she will get a real live in the sink bath.

Last time I posted I was seriously thinking about having her put to sleep. I actually expected her to die pretty quick and now she seems stronger and has been trying to get up on her own. So I'm hopeful but we'll see.

I am now keeping her in my bathroom where I am more available. Today she has eaten 3 eggs total. LOL. Since her appetite is so strong I gave her some scratch and she of course ate the corn right up. LOL. Obviously its her favorite.

So for today she is better. But if she doesn't regain use of her leg she doesn't have a future as a chicken. A couple of people that raise chickens said as she gains weight and strength she may regain use so we'll see. I hope so, we are kind of bonding. One thing for sure once better she will be very friendly to me much to Lil Roo's dismay I'm sure. Lil Roo does not care for me at all. LOL.

Blondie Update

Well, as of this moment it doesn't look like Blondie is going to make it. She is so weak even though she is eating and drinking. She is just sleeping all the time even when I'm changing her box out. So I doubt she'll make it another day or so. It's hard, I'm not that "attached" to Blondie because she has always been standoffish and a little scared of people. But I won't lie when Mr. Cook gave me medicine for Blondie and said it'll either make her better or she will die, I was a little upset. I know though that I have done the best I can for her and there is nothing else I can do. I've learned alot through this process it just makes me sad that Blondie is dying and I didn't know enough to save her in time. But she knows she is loved and she is getting good meals with protein like eggs. The feed store had me start feeding her milk and bread all squishy. She enjoyed that and with it ate her meds. But we are going to let time take it's course and keep her comfortable. I guess if she passes she will join the kitties at the Rainbow Bridge, do chickens go there??? Hmmm, oh yeah, It's "The Rainbow Bridge Farm". Let me deal with grief my way and you can keep on yours.

My Dad is still trying to bust my fantasy that my pets aren't going to Heaven with me. BUT YES THEY ARE!!!! Problem is I don't know where everyone else will live because, come on, do you know how many animals we've had???

Blondie is Sick (Chicken)

I have a lame chicken. We are hoping it's rickets and will work out. Monday night Mom was gone so I was out alone doing feed/water and head count on all the animals. It sounds simple but it's not. It's quite a job. Burns calories for every 2 minutes I burn 9 calories. LOL. I'm diet/workout minded. LOL.

Blondie was laying in the horse/chicken barn on her side I thought she was dead but when I touched her she moved away behind a brick. I thought she was seriously dying so I tried to get her and she didn't want to be gotten so I figured Lil Roo would take care of her, he is her protector and they are always together. Well the next day she was still alive when I got home so the next morning I called the vet and asked what to do. He thought it might be lice or mites which do to young chickens what fleas do young cats and dogs. Most of you will probably remember my kitten escapades with fleas and how it almost killed my kittens. But with determination and alot of hard work we saved them all.

Well, Dad got the meds Wednesday night and I went out in the rain and fought Lil Roo to bring Blondie in and she was so weak and listless. We put her in a box and gave her .1cc of Bayril and I put a little lid of water and she went crazy and drank it up so I gave her a little bit bigger bowl and put some feed down and she ate it, well she ate the pieces she liked. LOL.

So we gave her an injection again this morning and she seemed to be much stronger. Since she was acting better and not going crazy everytime I got near the box I started checking in her feathers to check for bugs. Sure enough once I got way down in the white fluffy part under her yellow feathers she has lice. They are the same blond color so they were very hard to detect. I went up to Cook Feed and got some Poultry Dust, came home dusted her and they started pouring off of her. I sat there watched them climb out of the feathers walk around drunkenly and fall off dead. I have to say at this point I've taken a million showers it seems I feel all creepy crawly. LOL. She seems much stronger.

Mom took these pics tonight when I was giving her meds and changing her paper and I change her water several times during the day. Tonight when Dad came in to do the injection she was scared and tried to get up by herself. She isn't scared of me anymore but Dad flipped her out. Her one leg is still gimpy but all in all she does seem better.

She is still a very sick chicken. Tonight we gave her a little bit of lettuce and she enjoyed that and then I scrambled her an egg and she tore it UP. LOL. She loved it. The one leg is still not working right and she isn't getting up today by any means. That leg has been very gray and dead looking but tonight when I excercised it there was some pink back in it. The vet said she might have rickets in her legs which could be temporary paralysis. I'm crossing my fingers.

If you are wondering why I am telling this story in such detail it's because not only is this my blog but I can go back and read what I did so the next time I can remember LOL.
Blondie isn't out of the woods by any means. I'm glad the bright green runny poo is gone. Hehe. If she doesn't gain use of her leg she may still have to go down but she is a fighter and so am I!!! So hopefully I can once again get her back up and healthy with the Lord's help. You will laugh but I pray for her every time I work with her. I talk to her and she is getting spoiled I believe. LOL. She will want to be a house chicken. LOL.

A Farm Update

So Gavin and I share the farm I guess. LOL. I take care of the animals and he gets to claim them. Man, oh, man life doesn't get any better. LOL. This is Rowdy-Mator. He is Gavin and my pride and joy!!! Gavin loved Rowdy Mator and we spent forever walking him in the front yard. It was a great time. I love my off days that aren't freezing temps because those are the days I get to spend out in the yard with my animals. I'm not a person with a ton of friends, I'm shy and have a very hard time with teh social part of life. Life will bring you a boatload of hurt and sometimes it's easier to withdraw rather than face rejection again. So I take in animals and they actually feel a void that people leave. They need me and it's nice to be needed. It's hard to be a single female in a married world. I hate it, it never bothered me until recently and like my little quote at the top of the page says, Music is my refuge, I can climb in between the notes and put my back to lonliness. Plus, Rowdy-Mator likes to hear me sing. LOL. I sing and groom him and he eats it up, I'm sure it's because he loves my singing not just the attention. haha.
OK, Mom was trying to get my boots and all she really did was get my **gasp** ungodly attire. On a farm you just don't wear the good stuff out of doors. I'm very proud of my new rubber boots. I was going to be different and buy colored ones, but only leopard print was in my size. It was the Lord's will, I'm sure. LOL. Chantry came over last Saturday and we groomed Rowdy-Mator some. It was so muddy and Rowdy had ROLLED in the mud. DOUBLE GROSS!! This is my baby girl getting some dinner. LOL. Lexington Noel is my goat. She was the first baby goat born on the farm. So she is pretty special. Her sister, Precious was the breech baby. She is so sweet, loves to cuddle.

Ok, so yes, I'm "kissing" Lexi, LOL. I was making little clicking noises with my mouth and she kept nudging my lips so we got the camera and took a picture. I said she was kissing me. She loves her human Mommy!!! I guess you get kisses where you can. HAHA
LOL, Yeppers this is Rowdy-Mator and his nosy self!!! I try to take pictures of him and he always has to get his nose all up in the camera so I took a shot and it turned out pretty cute even if I do say so myself. This is my MAN!!! He is the perfect one too. Well, except he doesn't bring in any money. LOL. I spend all mine on him. LOL.

Oreo is so very proud of her little girl. Lexington "Lexi" is one of the babies I'm keeping. Oreo lost her first baby about 10 months ago so this baby is special and she is taking very good care of her.

Oreo and Lexi in their house

Oreo had 2 baby girls Sunday Dec 7, 2008 but Precious, the baby on the left has alot of special issues. She was breech and I tried and tried to turn her but couldn't do it so she is the baby the vet had to deliver. Read the blogs for the whole story. Stephanie is raising her on a bottle right now.

A Incredibly Intense Day on the Farm

We had quite a day on the farm today. I am sick with a stomach virus and covered in mucus and blood from a goat. My blood pressure is through the roof. But what a day full of miracles and blessings.

It started with Rowdy Mator arriving first thing. He settled right in and made himself at home with with the hay. I combed his mane and they got his halter on him. The family was happy with how he just settled in. Everyone watched to make sure he and the goats could co-exist in the yard. Mom put the dogs out and suddenly all the commotions going on and there had been chickens hiding in the yard and my girls went after them. People came running from all directions of the house and yards. One is minus a bunch of feathers but all are OK. We went inside, I tried to eat lunch and my tummy didn't want too so, I sampled my food and gave up.

Robert came by in the late afternoon and asked if I was aware that Hill-Billy was being really mean and aggressive to Rowdy Mator. I went out to do yard control and I put a lead ..dy Mator and Robert corralled Hill-Billy in the dog yard. I was getting ready to release Rowdy Mator and Robert goes, "Hey Taniss, did you know there is a baby goat" Of course I didn't and sure enough there was a wee goat. Long story short, Oreo had twins, the second one was coming one leg and she couldn't have the baby. I gloved up and (sorry to the girlie girls reading this, this is life on the farm) was elbow deep in goat, yeah, the baby was breech. I tried and tried and tried to get the baby to turn and I was praying and to my frustration I couldn't do it. My aunt came over and she couldn't even get her hand in. So I called the vet and he said come here and so Stephanie and Brenda went in Brenda's truck with Oreo in Stephanie's lap and Mom drove my car with me holding the first baby. It took the vet awhile and lots of strength to turn the baby. When I had tried it felt like the baby was in a ball and the vet said I was correct. When he delivered the baby Brenda motioned for me because I was outside the room trying to keep the baby quiet. The newly delivered baby wasn't breathing but it had a heartbeat, I thought I was going to pass out from relief. I had already been shaking all over from trying to deliver the baby myself. The vet roughed the baby up and it finally sneezed and started breathing. For a while it was more touch than go and the baby had a neurological twitch which was bad but after patting and rubbing and talking to the baby she seemed to gain some strength. He gave Oreo some shots for different things and we paid him and off we went back home Stephanie in my backseat with Oreo and Mom driving and me holding 2 very precious bundles. We got home got them back in the yard and Oreo was exhausted and still having contractions, she bathed the babies and Lexington ate dinner, LOL, but Precious was still having some issues. She wasn't trying to eat or stand she wanted to sleep and that wasn't good because of the rough time she had being born. I mixed up the Colostrum and Stephanie got her to eat a little from the bottle. I was exhausted, sick and filthy, Brenda said not to stress she would make it or else she wouldn't. Stephanie said that baby was going to LIVE. She took her out to her house and she is taking care of her overnight to make sure she doesn't have any complications because of the delay in delivering her. When Stephanie headed home Precious seemed to be doing well, she was trying to push up and she had drank a little bit more. It's all those prayers we prayed. I'm sure Stephanie will get laughs for many days to come because I was screaming praying like God was hard of hearing. LOL. He wasn't because He helped us.
Because of all of this Billy is in the dog yard still so the dogs couldn't go out to potty so all 4 dogs had to be walked out front on a leash.

That is a crazy day in farm life. I love all my babies but right now I'm laying here still shaking, I've taken by BP pill and the room isn't quite so strange and I'm trying to chill. I still need a shower but when you are this tired and relieved and tired, you just don't care!!!
Oh, add to that Regina had to go to the hospital she was having contractions too. LOL. Haven't heard how she's doing yet.

All seems quiet on the farm and I'm headed to a shower and bed now, with a badly bruised foot from being stepped on by a 300lb mini horse. LOL. I thought it was broken at first but it may be sprained or just badly bruised, it's not swollen anymore and I can walk on it.
I'm signing off, Molly B is due any day...Anyone want delivery duty??? It's magical seeing that tiny baby that would almost just fit in your hand. Birth is such a miracle!!!
